All India Radio Dharwad turning 66 on 8 January 2015

All India Radio, Dharwad is celebrating its 65th Anniversary on 8th January 2015. It is the nerve centre of broad casting of Karnataka in general and north Karnataka in particular. It has a reach of 3.4 crore population. It has been responding to the regional aspirations of millions of listeners through its popular and variety of programmes. With its very rich Hindustani classical and folk music broadcast , it has got a special place on the musical map of the country

In more than six decades, All India Radio, Dharwad has developed in many direction. The strength of the Transmitter which was originally 1 Kw has been stepped up to 10 Kw (18.10.1964) and 100 x 2 Kw (15.7.1987). The Station's Programme zone expands to Dharwad, Belgaum, Gadag, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Koppal and Haveri districts. The total area covered at present is 40,000 sq. kms.
