The 1000KW transmitters at Chinsurah in West Bengal

The radio transmission system in the border areas isbeing augmented to strengthen the coverage there, theRajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday. In a written reply, Minister of Information andBroadcasting PR Dasmunsi said several projects andinstallations of transmitters in Jammu and Kashmir andthe North-Eastern states are underway. The Minister said Phase-1 of Jammu and Kashmir SpecialPlan has been completed under which nine projects havebeen commissioned and three are technically ready. In North-East, two FM transmitters at Itanagar andKohima are ready. Under the special plan, 1KWtransmitter at 19 new spots, 5KW transmitter atSilchar, 10KW transmitter at Gangtok and 100transmitters of 100KW have been approved for uncoveredareas. The 1000KW transmitters at Chinsurah in West Bengaland Rajkot have also been replaced by new ones, theMinister said. //////////////
