A total of 107 proposals/ requests including 18 from different states and union territories have been received for opening of All India Radio FM Radio Stations at 97 places during the last three years.
A total of 32 FM transmitters are being considered under 12th Plan while 37 FM transmitters will be considered in future plans.
Of the 107 proposals received from 2010 to 2013, 38 FM transmitters have already been approved or made functional.
FM Stations of AIR are functional at 323 places in the country, in addition to the 242 private FM radio stations functioning in the country under the Policy for expansion of FM Radio Broadcasting services through private agencies.
AIR FM radio services are likely to be operated from 132 new locations in the country over the next two years. These include 22 in Arunachal Pradesh; 12 in Tripura; nine each in Assam, Sikkim, and West Bengal; eight each in Jharkhand, Mizoram, Odisha, and Uttarakhand; six in Bihar, five each in Chattisgarh and Nagaland; four in Manipur; three each in Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh; two each in Madhya Pradesh and Punjab; and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, and Diu.
