First annual convention of Lamakaan Amateur Radio Club
Dear Hams and SWLs,
I am pleased to invite you to the first annual convention of Lamakaan Amateur Radio Club. Take time to read through this page and the schedule. We have lined up many interesting events to make this your best convention experience.
Registration fee is kept very low to make it affordable to everyone. LARC neither seeks any funding nor wants it. Instead, we manage with whatever the delegates can contribute. So, please help yourself.
We will be setting up an amazing flea market that will sell many transceiver kits, PCBs, torroids, Used rigs, antennas, etc. The entire schedule is packed up 12 really great and very interesting talks, half a dozen demonstrations of everything that starts from Using Baofeng for satellites to stand-alone SDRs.
Food: A simple lunch is provided on both days, tea is available round the clock. If you want the famous Hyderabadi Biryani, you can pre-order it on the registration form. (We won't be able to arrange for it for spot registrations)
Accommodation: We are making few arrangements for stay close to the venue. The details available on our website
Travel: we will have volunteers at the railway stations, airport and the bus station on the morning of 26th to guide you to the venue or to your place of stay.
Here are the brief highlights:
12 sessions: On the 26th, we have a day packed with the best brains of India talking and showing how to work with Raspberry PI, satellites, design antennas on PCs, etc.
Homebrew Contest: Grab away a all band HF transceiver as the first prize and a 40 meter SSB transceiver as the second prize. The contest is open to all delegates, bring your homebrew project and enter into the contest (No matter what it is a TRX or a simple oscillator or a piece of test equipment)
Eyeball Contest: Take a VHF/UHF handheld transceiver by logging the largest number of signatures on the eyeball day.
Flea Market: Buy project PCBs, toroids, tools, cables, accessories, junk, radios
Club Night: Talk about your club activities, show off your projects, events and club members' rigs
KiCad workshop: Bring your laptop and learn to design PCBs with SP Bhatnagar's night workshop
uBITX workshop: For Rs.7000, you can build your own all band HF transceiver in one evening with Farhan. Bring your tools and wire up the board!

Practical Wireless and RadioUser magazines have been bought by Warners Group Publications
Southgate
August 17, 2017
Roger Hall & Steve Hunt have made the following announcement on the PW Publishing website:
We are very pleased to announce that Practical Wireless and RadioUser magazines have been bought by Warners Group Publications, a Lincolnshire-based multi-million-pound turnover publishing company that specialises in producing magazines, websites and events for niche hobbies.
They believe that both Practical Wireless and RadioUser are an ideal fit with their business and have assured us they plan to use their publishing expertise and size to help develop both titles, giving them an assured long-term future.
Both Steve and I are aware that we were only the most recent custodians of two historic titles, Practical Wireless dating from 1932 and the RadioUser with its roots in Short Wave Magazine from 1937.
That's why, when we decided to retire after being in publishing for almost 40 years, first with IPC and then with PW Publishing, we felt it was important to find a reputable company with the expertise and resources to make sure they will continue to be published for many years to come. In Warners, we believe we have found just such a company and both PW and RU will continue to be the country's best-selling radio magazines.
Over the next few weeks we will be handing over all aspect of our business to Warners and they will be publishing both titles from the October issues onwards.
The new Publisher will be Rob McDonnell (robm@warnersgroup.co.uk) and the new Group Advertising Manager will be Claire Ingram (clairem@warnersgroup.co.uk).
Our existing Editors, Don Field and Georg Wiessala, will remain with their respective magazines. In addition, I will be staying on in a consultancy role to help with the transition and to assist Warners going forwards.
We'd both like to thank all of you for the support you've given us and the magazines in the past; it's been an interesting few decades.
For the next three months, Webscribe will continue to administer subscriptions, to assure a seamless handover, and new contact details will be forthcoming in due course.

AIR likely to launch new Dzongkha service for Bhutan
New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) National broadcaster All India Radio (AIR) is likely to launch a new language service -- Dzongkha -- for Bhutan, a move seen to strengthen ties with the neighbouring country.
Dzongkha will take the total foreign language offering of AIR's External Services Division (ESD) to 16 which includes French, Russian, Chinese, Indonesian, Thai, English, Pashto, Nepali, Tibetan, Urdu and Baluchi.
It will also broadcast programmes for Indian diaspora in 12 languages, including Gujarati, Malayalam, Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, Bangla, Telugu and Kannada.
"The plan has been approved for Dzongkha service. It will be launched soon. It is part of soft diplomacy," an official source said.
Bhutan, the first foreign country which Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited after assuming office in 2014, shares cordial relations with India and is a model for good neighbourly relations, he added.
Initially, the ESD will broadcast cultural programmes in Dzongkha language.
India and Bhutan have joint ventures in various areas, including hydro-electric power generation, education, trade, health and culture.
A one hour daily Dzongkha language service is proposed between 6.00 am and 7.00 am IST.
Either a transmitter in Kurseong, a hill station some 32 kms from Darjeeling in West Bengal, or in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, will be used to broadcast the new service.
The Ministry of External Affairs will help in hiring language professionals from Bhutan to run this service.
